From the Peace Movement Aotearoa: Terrorism (Bombings and Financing Bill)

we have just received information that Parliament has gone into Urgency through to Friday 11 October - the process of passing the Terrorism (Bombings and Financing) Bill into law will begin with the second reading sometime  tonight, with the third and final reading sometime tomorrow. This is the Bill which: "marks the single greatest legislative erosion of  human rights and the due process of law in this country since those Acts  passed in the late 1800s which took away the right to trial - in particular  the Mäori Prisoners Trials Act of 1879 and the Mäori Prisoners Act of  1880." (PMA, 22 March 2002).

More information about the Bill including a selection of alerts and some of  the submissions which opposed it are available on-line at  http://www.converge.org.nz/pma/terrosub.htm

At this last stage, it is unlikely that anything will influence those  politicians and parties which want to pass the Bill into law - so far as is  known, only the Green Party MPs will be opposing it. However, if you wish  to take the opportunity to express your views on this totally unnecessary  and repressive legislation, you could contact your local MP, and the  government politicians below:
